Can anyone help with a gear shift problem?

Hey whats up, anyone awake? my automatic 2006 wrangler rubicon wont shift into gear. I found a broken piece of plastic about the size of a dime in the driveway. Bro in-law held in place and it shifted fine. Im trying to figure out the name of the part i need and is it easy to repair. It is attached to a cable shaped like a spring. make any sense? Cindy

maybe the shift brake interlock? dont know, dont have that part in my jeep but that sounds like it may be...
