Brake Squeal

OK, I did my front brakes on my 00 XJ about 2 months or so ago. New pads (Autozone ceramic) and new rotors. They work fine. Over the past couple weeks, they have started squealing. They never did when they first went on... What gives? Why does it do it now, and more importantly, how can I get rid of it? Sometimes its just a little, like when I am gently depressing the brakes, and sometimes its a terribly loud noise whenever I am braking. Its really annoying.

Thanks!

GEORGE CARLIN'S VIEWS ON AGING:

Are they metallic pads? sometimes you will have a hard spot that can cause squealing.

I have heard folks say that if you didn't lube the back of the brake pads it will cause the squealing. the back not the front the little prongs. VERY odd but that is what they say. I didn't and it didn't cause the squealing but again "I HEAR" that it could.

They are ceramic.

My buddy is a tech and he gave me a can of some sort of lube for the back of the pads like a year ago. I had forgotten about it; probably should have used it. Oops. Come to think of it, he said he gave it to me because he never used it. Well, maybe if I get desperate I will take them apart again and put that stuff on. Probably not. Thanks for the help.

My barkes act funny as well. When I brake the steering wheel moves to the right and its not the alignment. Happened after a mild wheeling trip.

Sounds like the left caliper is hanging up, causing the right to grab harder than the left..

Well, I couldn't stand the squealing anymore and I took the pads off, sprayed them with that spray my buddy gave me that is supposed to stop the squealing, and put it back together the other night. No more squealing. I'd like to say the fix worked, but they didn't squeal when I first installed them either, so I guess I will wait and see. I just thought I would report that this spray seems to work, so it might be worth using for you guys out there that need to do your brakes.
