Better Gas Mileage

I'm sure you guys can all relate:

JEEPS ARE GAS HOGS!

Some companies advertise their air filters improving gas mileage by "up to ten miles guaranteed!!!"

Does anyone know of any filters that really will improve gas mileage?

if you drive to top speed, turn the engine off, and coast to a near stop.. then repeat... you'll save about 10 mpg

curiosity

Are you sure it wasn't 10%? I can't imagine that even the most dishonest of marketing bozos would try to claim a 10 MPG improvement.

K&N makes a good one, and it may help fuel economy, but probably not to the extent that is will be anything significant or even noticeable. If you did every gas saving mod out there, you still wouldn't get 10 more MPG.

Yes, Jeeps are gas hogs.

Update on Tire Swap situation--More advice

I went K&N then put on bigger tires the next day..you can virtually see the gas gauge going down.

my XJ gets 20+ to the gallon if i drive nicely so usually i get between 18 and 20 to the gallon...but if you take out your airbox, and the restrictor on your air intake valve, and drop in a K& n cone filter, you might be able to get 2-4 mpg better- bigger tires mess with that though.
either way that mod right there will cost you a total for 80-100 dollars and get you more horsepower and slightly better mileage

Thanks so much!!!

I'm definitely getting a K&N asap!!!

Until then I'll use this advice

if you drive to top speed, turn the engine off, and coast to a near stop.. then repeat... you'll save about 10 mpg
