My '88 wrangler's serpantine belt is going to shreds.
Was wondering how to replace it- there's no idler pulley or anything.
It's got factory a/c too. Am i going to have to remove the power steering pump
or something to change the belt???
Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.[addsig]

I have a 1989 Wrangler YJ 4.2 I-6 and to replace the serpentine belt the alternator bolts need to be loosened and the belt removed. When you readjust the belt there should be a place in the front of the alternator bracket for a 1/2-inch ratchet used to hold the belt while you tighten the bolts.[addsig]

You need to figure out whats causing the damage... If it's shreaded on one edge or the other it most likely pulley misalignment. Sometimes the belt will ride fine at idle then jump a rib under load. To fix it you need to adjust the depth with a pulley installer or a remover. The pulley should be flush with the end of the shaft +/- .010 (i think) you can use your finger to gage it, if its not smooth it's gonna eat the new belt. [addsig]
