Belt Replacement

I'm going to replace my belt this weekend on my 90 cherokee 4.0. Is there any suggestions or things to look out for while doing this I've never done it before but I will have help from my brother who a little more knowledgeable than I am. thanks for any advice.

Should be pretty straight forward. Maybe get a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual to help you along in this and other future maintenance/repairs.

Stuck in the Rio Grande

The bolt that you loosen/tighten to make the power steering pump move (sort of slides along the threading), has a bolt to hold it in place... It's easy to spot, follow the threading till you see a part on it, on the back side of that is a bolt to be loosened... Makes twisting it a lot easier (I hope that's not as confusing as it looks, best way I can describe it...

Like Twisted said, it's pretty straightforward, just look at it, and you'll see which bolts need to come off/be loosened. The power steering pump is the tension point... Make sure you have the belt nice and tight, or it will squeal like crazy. Mine wasn't all that hard, removing the electric fan, and loosening the fan shroud made it easier on both the '95, and the '00... I want to say yours should be identical to the '95. Belt routing diagram should be on the fan shroud... Just time and patience, you'll see how it needs to happen.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Signature pic requirements

good place to start! Saurian gave good advice. Just try to avoid getting addicted to turning the wrenches!...............................NOT!

yep, and if you have any problems don't be afraid to ask!!

Should be straightforward like everyone said. Sauian said it good

What can I say, I did two of them with no prior experience, and the 95 is quite different from the 00...

RE: Re: RE: Chevy versus Moose

I didn't loosen the two bolts on the back of the power steering unit. And I snapped the tension bolt. In total I believe there are 4 bolts on the 95 that I had to loosen. (rookie mistake) And while I'm at it, be aware of the radiator when your turning the tension bolt, your wrench may be coming pretty close to the rad, and for some reason it won't take to kindly with being smacked. Same for when your taking out the fan. All in all though straightforward. Have fun.

Thanks for all of your help guys. I do have the chiltons manual so with your advice and the book it shouldnt be a problem at all. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to run into any tricks.

Know anything 'bout AMC V8?

Good point about the radiator, also, beware of your knuckles... That's in a bad place to be wrenching if you don't want to be scuffing 'em...
