Ok i got this 89 xj 4.0 after it was hit in the front driver 1/4. They patched up the wiring and put a new fender on and all. It has a real bad electrical short now (makes everything flicker and the a/c pump kick on then sometimes its so bad it will stall the engine out. I can replciate the short by bouncing on the injured corner but no other way. If i take all the fuses out it runs fine no short. HELP ME
:-?

I'd first check the main Fuse block plug located on the firewall on driver's side (remove wiper fluid reservoir for access). This plug is prone to problems especially if you have a manual trans. (clutch fluid can leak in there :-O ). From the Fuse box plug the Wires branch off into 2 harnesses: a major harness that runs along the drivers side towards the front, and a small harness

The wiring harness that runs towards the front splits behind the driver's side headlight housing into a harness for ignition/AC wiring and a smaller one for the fog lights and right front head/parking/turn lamps. Take off the tubing and inspect all wires and the inline connections. Also inspect the Ballast resistor, Egr solenoid, fog lamp relay, and radiator fan relay which are nearby.

A good Multimeter and the Electrical diagrams are helpful. Haynes manuals seem to have vague diagrams. I recently had to rewire some of my '88s front end electrical and it's a time consuming project. Then again what isn't ?

Good Luck :-)
