bad crank?

I asked these questions in my XJ woes thread, but no replies to this part of the post, so I thought perhaps it might work better in its own thread.

Now here's my dilemma, this is a great Jeep and I love it. The mechanic noticed a leak at the rear main seal & the oil adaptor(?) but it's not terrible, typical. He's afraid that if I fix the rear main that it will happen again because there is a valley worn from the crank. Is this a usual thing? The rear main was replaced in '01 and previously in 1994.

Can I replace the crank, and should I? Is it better to get a rebuilt, or do I just try another seal and pray? I have about 2 years worth of payments left on it, and I'm desperate.

All ideas very welcome here! I ned to make an appointment witht he mechanic or start looking for a motor.....

I have done that repair job before on a rear main seal that never stops leaking. I was replaceing that seal once a year untill I gave up on the motor. I put in a rebuilt motor and solved a bunch of problems all at once. It had a couple lifters that were bad and a bearing or two that were trashed.
Let us know what you decide to do. An engine swap is not that hard to do if you have the right tools.

i am not possitive but i do beleave that if you can find someone in your area like mine that deal mainly with bearings and seal and you could probably find one that is just a hair under sized and solve the problem for good or maybe not , just an idea
