Back fireing problem

My jeep has recently started back fireing when I shut it off I get one un Godly back fire. Is this too much gas in Carberator or just bad gas. I put premium has in it???? :?:

Could be running rich (getting too much gas) but since it has happened all of a sudden it probably has developed a vacuum leak. The weber carbs seem to bad about developing leaks around the mounting plates. I would check there first. Just get a can of carb cleaner and spray around the plate, then the vacuum line connections. Do this with the engine running. When the idle changes you have found the spot of your leak.

This carb was put on just about a month ago. I had it in to have the clutch done and this just started after that. I am not sure why it wasn't doing that as soon as the carb was done. What do you think? It doesn't sputter like the engine not shutting off , it waits a sec. after I turn it off and caboom! All the hoses have been replaced and I don't hear any whistling when running.

Vacuum leaks just happen. You won't hear a leak most of the time. When you shut your motor off a little more air is allowed in through the leak and it meets up with the unburned gas and BOOM. Try the carb cleaner trick. Spray a little bit at each connection and at the base of the carb. When the engine (through a leak) sucks some into your motor the engine idle will drop. If you don't have any leaks, the idle will not change. I still think that you have a small leak at the base of your carb.

Thanks for the help I will try that. How do you correct it? It is a simple hose, or does something on the carb need to be tightened?

If it is a hose you can replace it or if the leak is near the connection you could cut the hose and reattach. If it is the base, you MAY be able to tighten but usually that doesn't work. You can over tighten and cause problems, too. You will probably have to remove the carb, clean the base of the carb and the 2 base plates, install new gaskets and put it all back on. Really sounds worse than it is. Make sure you get all of the old gasket material off.
First, find the leak then worry about the repair. It could be a loose hose or a cap that has a leak. Hope it's that simple.
