What size square drive do I need to open the fill plug on an 87 5spd? I tried a 1/4 inch drive to small, 3/8 drive too big. Not sure of the proper tool. Help please jeep needs some oil!

take an old 3/8 extention to the grinder till it fits. some times you have to jimmy rigg it.

Heres the best thing you can do with that transmission. Take it out. Find a dumpster. Throw it in. Find an ax-15 and 231 and replace.

All in time. I have the 231 but the ba/10 was a swap from an 87, not me previous owner. But I still need to get a square drive to fit, I can order from sears but need to know a size. Come on 87-89 yj owners lend some experience.

x2 on the grinder.
If you really must have the exact size, then measure it and go to Lowes for a piece of keystock in that size. Keystock is what is used to lock a motor or pump shaft to any type of coupling via a keyway. Comes in various lengths and sizes, SAE and metric.
Grinder would be quicker and more fun...you know, sparks and all.
