we have an 87 jeep cherokee, it has an aw4 transmission. the problems with it are. in park, it acts like it bound up, it wont let the engine rev up. in reverse, acts the same. in neutral, it acts like its in first gear. the jeep will go forward, but wont shift. if the transmission is in drive, it works well, and shifts nicely.
I have checked the linkage, changed the filter, and oil. i even pulled the valve body out and cleaned all the valves. nothing has helped.. my next course of action is to pull the transmission out and rebuild it. unless someone has a idea of whats wrong with it. any ideas or thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
