Contour fan swap;
Are these relays the correct ones as shown in the diagram?

Friggen Ford Dealership can't tell me.

Went back to the boneyard looking for a bank of relay sockets (small footprint) and I found two more 70/80 amp relays for free with a more contemporary number;

I scanned several vehicles for small footprint relay pods, but so far those that take Bosch style relays are 6x9" and larger.

Once I'm done with this project, if anyone's facing the same consumer desert that I'm facing I'll offer to send any leftover 70/80 relays for free plus shipping. I even took the above relay (with the Ford part no. clearly visible) to the local Ford dealer and they couldn't tell me amperage, pin assignment not application. So I can understand if someone else has the same difficulty I've had in getting these relays.

Seems like all the parts guys know is part numbers. You've got to get ahold of a ford mechanic or find it on the web. I can't help you much. I'm from the days when all we had were fuses.

I heard ya there Stedy Foot, me too. THe parts guys at Wilson Ford are all new school kids that can't seem to find their butt with a bell on it. I know it's not their personal fault, resouces online are kaput as the origianl data entry people failed to include all pertinant details about parts as the paper manuals once did. Even in my field, contemporaries of mine have told me the A-100, A-1000 and B-600 tariffs are no longer needed as the sales computer will take care of all things pertaining thereunto. This is 180 wrong in my experience, especially when I have custormers convince that what they heard is right, I have the documents (still) to get them on the right track.

Haaaaaaaaaa!
I've got the wires secured into the plug as best as I can but do you think I could find these

(.375/9.5mm Flat Plug Sleeves with catch) within a 50 miles radius?

grainger for one? Napa probably.. most any good "electronic supply store" Albany, I remember an electronics store there or Corvallis.. I may even have some if you can't find them, how many would you need? if not, I know a great place that will send them to you out of Las Vegas.. let me know..

Hi hrfrwa, thank for your response. I've scanned Grainger's online site, NAPA in store and from their books, the local Ford dealership (whose parts clerk didn't know what a relay did). The old Rat Shack store used to be managed by a former Navy Electrician and really knew his stuff, nowadays since they moved the store he's no lnoger there and the kids only know how to sell phones, and their stock of connectors of any kind are sorely lacking.
There are the 3M style by many manufacturers like these that are .375/9.5mm;

but they have no catch on the back to hold them fast to the socket.

WOW! thanks for your responses frhrwa, and JPNinPA. While these are available locally for 14 - 16 gauge wire, (.250 inches) the 70 amp relay power tabs need one for 10 gauge wiring that is (0.375 inches) Hella once had these available, but no longer apparently. Their (Hella) nomenclature being; Flat plug sleeves with catch-Blade size 9.5mm (0.375 inches)
I found a bag of 50 for $23 clams + shipping from Fleet Supply but between Albany, Corvallis and Salem none are to be found. If I do buy a bag of these oversized plug sleeves I'm going to keep 'em handy for anyone else that needs some and I'll send 'em off free plus shipping given the trouble I've had finding these I'm sure others have as well.

Update: Amazon finally has a reseller that, combined with shipping is a little cheaper. Got 'em on he way.

glad to help, sorry it took so long.. back when I was working the electronics industry, I had contacts all over the US and could get, if I didn't have already, almost anything out there.. KEEP JPNinPA as a contact, if he doesn't have it, he'll know just about anything you need to know about it, plus he's a good fella..

No sweat frhrwa, for most of my electrical stuff it it can't be had locally (an ever increasing problem) I've gone with Mouser Electronics where I've found OE Jeep (and other) plastic socket chassis connectors among other things, but even they failed me this time. Good to have additional resources.:beer:

Nick at BRAKA Industries might have been able to help you out also.. he's there in Albany or Salem.. I'm thinking Salem now that I think about it..

Kameraden! Thanks for the resouce frhrwa ! If those Hella connectors are not up to spec. I'll give BRAKA a shot. :)

Yippeee! Got a box of 'em in and the ARE the right ones/size!

...and I have more faith in Czech manufacture than that of China. Also as I've promised on more than a couple forums if anyone else is building these relay sockets drop me a line and I'll mail you enough of these to get your fan project going on this 70/80 amp relay!

Thanks Wayne, I got all the pieces now just gotta put it together. Got a rear main seal leak that'll take precedence though. ...and before that I gotta build some more garage shelves in the new house to get all the stuff off the floor so I have room to work!
