well i broke down and bought gave it a tune up and a can and a half of carb cleaner now it runs a lot better still wants to idle at 1500-2000 rpms but i want to run a couple gallons of good gas through it and some fuel system treatment before i start any major carb adjusting. That brings me to my next question is and edel broc or how ever you spell it better than a weber I know on this page webers are pretty popular they are both around the same price so I need some more advice also I think mine came with a smog pump and it has been removed I dont know who did but the whole egr system is hosed to hell in back and huge hole in the cat where the tube went has anyone scraped theres and if so what did they do with all of the vacume hoses can i get rid of them or should I cap them off? also I got it for cheap 1200 and I was wrong about the year it is an 88 dont think it would mater but it is. also since its the same motor as most cjs is the crank pully and cam gears the same size as earlier model 258s? what about a header would they both work the reason I have a header and underdrive pully off of a cj setting in my closet that i was going to put on my cj? by the way is for sale for parts only if anyone needs somthing with rust on it Jk but the body is shot not worth anybodies time but some of the engine is still fine like the air filter jk again let me know if anybody needs anything and I will tell what the condition is of the part and if its anygood,

You would have to get a different intake to run an edelbrock carb where as with the weber you can use your existing intake.[addsig]

I am installing a weber now. I have an 88 yj 4.2. I have not finished it yet but it gets rid of all of the vacuum lines except for the egr and the vacuum advance on the distributer, and pcv. Evertything else gets capped. It even gets rid of the monster of an air cleaner assembly.

I have an 89 4.2 and I replaced the cat AND disconnected the pulse air system (tubes to the cat and down pipe) with no ill effects. My tubes were rusted and 1 check valve broke in two. After installing the new cat and Flowmaster I removed the tube to the cat, disconnected and capped the 2 vacuum lines to the pulse tubes and presto no problems. Hope that this helps!
