Ammo Prices through the roof!

Have any of you who shoot alot noticed it?
I shoot a fair amount of .223 and you used to be able to get 20 rounds of the Federal or Winchester in the plain boxes for well under $5.

If any of you have an Academy Outdoor store, you may have noticed their house brand of ammo, Monarch, used to be $3.86 per 20 and last month they almost doubled it. I wasn't too hot on it anyway, it was Serbian, I think.

I only shoot brass casings in my AR, so I don't price the steel stuff like Wolf.

The best deal I found is a guy about 80 miles from me who sold me 500 rnds of American Eagle (which is Federal, manufactured in the Lake City plant) for $115.
The dealers blame the war on the higher prices, but I think the prices of Copper and lead are more to blame. Brass is made out of copper and tin, so there is a direct link.

What are some of the prices you are seeing out there.

Pm'd you about this. It's gone WAY up. Trust me, you aren't the only one who's noticed.

yea, now i'm wish i would have bought alot more of them 500rd boxes of brass for $64 just little over a year ago. now it cost me 2X the amount. I had just bought me a hand reloader for my .223

I dont shoot alot of brass rounds, but I do shoot alot of trap.
I have noticed that Red dot FFF powder has gone up as well. When I was feeling lazy I would pickup a pallet of Estates for 2:76$ a box now there running 3:15$ a box on a pallet order.

I've got a few hundred rounds of excellent Lake City and Winchester once fired and cleaned. PM me if your interested. I send it to ya dirt cheap.8)

i hate target shooting. A round of .45 ACP is expensive as crap. And you can't just buy 1 box of 50 rounds at what used to be $18 a box. You have to shoot 2 - 300 hundred rounds. I look at it this way....... I have to clean my Glock 21 after every shooting practice and practical, if I am doing the work to thoroughly clean it I am going to make it worth my while at the range.

Now I know your a liar!
Glocks never need cleaning they just go on forever:lol:

yeah, I know, I feel the same way about my AR. I know some guys to only clean after every other trip out or so, but I just can't put her up without a good thorough cleaning..

i reload all of my own rifle ammo and it def saves money if you shoot alot !!!! jug of powder runs usually 20 bucks and is good for 500+ loads depending and box of 100 bullets around 10 bucks and i re-use brass that i have about 10 times but if you buy new brass 100 cases will run around 25 bucks it sounds like a lot but when you figure out how much you actually spend and the ability to pump out more ammo whenever you run out very handy haha

I guess I'm right on the verge of re-loading myself.
I usually pick up my new brass, tumble it and re-sell it to reloaders to offset my cost, but maybe I need to reload. I just don't have the spare time like I used to, but maybe I need to make time.

hell you got half of it already down ... it is time consuming if you have a single stage press like i do but i like it because of the wide range of bullets and loads i can try out and honestly reloaded ammo shoots alot more accurate IMO all the books say it and i can tell a difference with my 270. .... i get all my stuff from midwayusa they have the hugest selection and really good prices

Walmart had Winchester 9mm 115gr FMJ in 100 round "value packs" for $9.98 about 6 months ago, then they went to $10.98, $11.98, and are now at $12.98. That's about a 25-30 percent price increase over a period of about 6 months. Sportsmansguide had the same ammo for about $118.00/1000 shipped (gotta pay sales tax at wally world) and they suddenly went to $147/1000. I've got a buddy who has a Beretta and he doesn't have a computer so he gets me to place orders online for him. I told him stuff was going up and he said "how much is 9". I checked on wed and it was $118/K. He came out to the house that saturday and when I pulled the same item up it had gone up $30/K He was NOT happy.
I said "told you so"
It's kind of a catch 22. If you buy now prices will stay up (panic buying has played a HUGE role in driving up the prices) but if you DON'T buy now you might have to pay more later. Course you could buy a Dillon and a crapload of components and you're good to go for a long time, but powder, bullets, and primers have gone through the roof too. With the elections looming it's probably not going to get any better in the short term, but prices on everything tend to be cyclical so hopefully they'll go back down in the future.

glocks and ak's are distant cousins arnt they? :) yea, I am the same way with my ar. if i shoot 1 clip I might as well shoot 20 :)

Just after 9/11 and the sniper shootings in MD/DC I bought an arsenal worth anticipating new laws. I was half right on the laws.
\\
ANyhow, haven't needed to buy ammo since.

are you willing to sell some at a modest profit?

I've been reloading my own for about 15 years. Prices on powder and primers have gone up steadily, but nothing more than average inflation. However, when I do need to get new brass, it's quite a bit higher. I generally only load FMJ rounds, about 70-30 to HP rounds, and those have definitely gone up.

i use hollow point rounds for coyotes and such and usually FMJ lightweight rounds 110gr or less for just play shooting ...and if i'm getting serious nosler ballistic tips are the way to go around 13-15 bucks for a box of 50 from midway .... but prices go up on everything it seems now a days........ my lawyer has a preban AK and i swear you can run clips through it all day no jams just keeps chink'n rounds for something that was designed in 47 i dont think they could have done a better job as far as something to stand the test of time and war !

Tried to find any clays (skeet) lately? No one in our area has any. Something about a shortage of the materials they are made of. Wal Mart and Academy don't know when they will have any.

I've got 20 cases in storage that I bought a few years ago at an estate sale for $1 a case.
