 2 questions. I have a AMC model 20 rear end with one piece axles and soon to be a locker. I've heard the rear end is weak, but is that only before I put the one piece in? My other question is how big of a tire can I run? I currently have 33's w/ a chevy 350 th350 dana300, I think I can go to 35's, but how about any bigger 36's, 37's also I still have the front stock dana 30??? How big can I go before I need to switch out axles???

The AMC 20 can be built up to be as tough as a dana 44.Put a truss on that thing a chromoly shafts and you will be plenty strong.

True that the AMC 20 is not a bad axel. One piece shafts are a great thing in the 20. Run it till it breaks if it breaks and then worry about it. A truss and you will be fine. tug

You guys will be fine up to about a 35" tire. Be careful with the skinny pedal and hopping with any tire larger than that.

The AMC20 is a good axle, with the 2-piece shafts being the main weak point. Once that's addressed you are good to go.

The dana 30 is actually a pretty good axle. Will hold 35's easy with heavy duty shafts or if you just take it easy on the throttle. The truss is a must if you are going to run 35's on the AMC 20.The tubes have a tendency to flex under heavy pressure.

You'll break hubs and stub shafts long before the rear end goes.
Slide a Ford 9" under there if you are worried about strength. It has the same wheel pattern so you'll be good there. Find the right ratio and width and you'll be pretty well setup.
