Ok here it is in a nutshell,I just restored an 87 Yj Laredo that had HUGE snow plow sized shackles and poor looking leaf springs on it.
I purchased a what I think was a good used set of stock springs and shackles to fix the look.
After replacing the 8 inch shackles and springs to the stock say 4 inch shackles and springs the front wheel ride height is only 1-1/2 inch above the stock 235 75 R15 tires which will surely hit the flare.
Does anyone know what the stock height should be????
My buddys 90 (same equipment) sits at 30 1/2 inches to bottom of flare
mine is at 29 1/2 with a 28 inch tall tire.
Pic of jeep with old shackles(biguns)

Are those spring perfectly flat (no arch) in the picture? Good for you for restoring it.

I did a bit of research, and found this

Height:
1987–1992 soft top: 72 in (180 cm)
1987–1992 hardtop: 69.6 in (177 cm)

Yes they flatened out once I set it back on the ground. So I did a double check on my friends 1990 YJ and he is at 31 in to bottom of flare.
I am at 29-1/2 -your at 30 with 31's? How much clearance have you got between tire and fender flare?
I guess I am close enough I just would hate to rub .
I think for now cuz I am unemployed and low on funds that I will redrill the old shackles and cut them down a little so I can get at least to 30-30 1/2
Thanks for the input

this is from yesterday. those are the 235/75/16 and stock suspension

I am going to say your spings are fine, it's the honking huge 100 pound winch on the front that is weighing it down. I can see a slight negative arch in the front springs which means they may 1. be a little beat up, 2. are rear springs yo put in the front. Jeep did use a different spring rate between front and rear springs, but they never ID wich was what beyond a assembally sticker, which is most likely long gone. most aftermarket suppliers will only list on part number for both front and rear springs.

Personally, it looks great, I'd just run it. also I am not sure 235/75r15 were stock tires on YJ's. I recall when I bought one of my YJ's from the dealership, it had smaller tires, 215/65r15 IIRC

Ok well I took the old shackels that I had removed and redrilled and shortened them to work and got another 1 inch out of it.
This will work for now.
I have been out of work since last Sept so I cant lift it right now but that is my next step and all this will go away.
Thanks everyone!

Hey Johnny those were the original springs that I removed in the pic.
And this YJ has a 5 leaf sprimg rear and a 4 leaf spring front.
Arch was a little tighter with the new pair.
YES the winch could be the problem maybe I should try removing it to see what changes if any occur.

That sounds about right, I do not know for certain on the years, but my 94 had 6 leaf rears stock and 4 leafs front. even though they have less leaves, still a different spring rates. believe it or not the 4 leaf front packs have a higher weight rating than the 5 or 6 leaf rears.

The stock height is 72''. Hard top & soft top

The stock tires were 205/75/15 or 215/75/15 depending on the model jeep
