adjusting full steely's

i have about a 2 inch gap between the upper part of my hard doors and my hard top. everything else is sitting flush...ie the hardtop is mounted correctly on the tub. this is my second hard top, i thought the first one was the wrong top but they both fit the same. it seems as though the upper part of the door around the window needs to be moved back a little, it hits the windshield frame...the guy that had it before me actually bent the windshield frame to allow the door to close. the top of the door seals nicely, its just the back. any ideas? :?:

thanks in advance

I had to do some adjusting to my hard doors when I put them on. It was a pain in the @$$. I ended up loosening the door side of the hinges while the door was closed, then I shifted the door into it's proper position and held it in place with wooden shims, and then tightened them back up. It took a couple of times to get it right. There may be an easier or better way, but this worked for me. I didn't want to adjust the Jeep side of the hinges or the door stikers because they work fine where they are with my 1/2 doors and I didn't want to go through it all over again in the spring!

i wonder if there is a way to adjust only the upper part? the lower half is fine, when closed it is flush with the tub. also not looking forward to getting into a fight with those torx bolts.

Amazingly enough, they were uncharacteristically ez to get loose. I thought I would only need to loosen the top ones, but they all kind of work together and you will need to loosen all 6 torx bolts (it doesn't take much so dont back 'em out too far!)

There's two things you can do to get your hardtop and doors to fit properly. One is to move the doors. The other is to adjust your windshield frame. If you bring the frame back a little, it'll make your doors seal tighter to the the windsheild frame and also move the hardtop back allowing for more room at the rear of the door.

Don't adjust the hinges if the door is sitting even in the door opening of the tub.

Loosen the spreader bars where they slip onto the main rollbar hoop. Loosen the windshield brackets near the dash speakers. Make sure the hardtop is unbolted all the way around.

Move the windshield fore and aft until you get the proper alignment between the top of the door and the windshield, and the top of the door and the hardtop.

2" gap is an awful lot

if i move the windshield frame forward any farther the door hits the hardtop, back any farther and the door hits the windshield frame. is there a way to only move the upper part that goes around the window? that is what needs pushed back.

If the Jeep is straight, and the problem is not the hard top, adjust the doors. After messing around with mine quite a bit, I got them to shut and seal properly. If the doors are straight, there's only one thing left to adjust - the hinges. The gap around the tub has a little room to work with. Best of luck with it!

Sounds like the windshield needs to go forward and you've got room between the back of the window and the hardtop to take up before the door hits the hardtop.
