ABS Light - 96 Jeep Grand

Help please! The ABS light came on in my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee (265,000 km). I drove about one km with it on and it started making a horrific knocking sound (seemed to exist from anywhere from 10km/hour to 50km/hour). After shutting it off for an hour or so and restarting to try and get it home, the light stayed on, but the knocking sound did not reoccur. New brakes were replaced about 20,000km ago, and braking seemed fine tonight while drivng, so am not sure if this is cause for panic or not. Anyone with any experience with this?

The noise you were hearing could be the ABS Pump motor..Since it's only been 12.42 miles ago since you had your brake Pads replaced, i would get it re-checked for the concern.. there is a possibility that one of the ABS wheel speed sensor went offline..
