Clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch said it would offer “substantial payment“ to MTV's The Jersey Shore's cast members to stop wearing the brand on air.

Mike “the Situation“ Sorrentino may have to find some new attire for his “gym, tan, laundry“ routine.

“We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino's association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans,“ an Abercrombie & Fitch spokesperson said in a statement. “We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.“

The reality show, currently in its fourth season, features hard-partying and hookups in locations ranging from the show's origin, the Jersey Shore to the current season in Florence, Italy.

The castmates have coined terms like “grenade“-- to refer to an unattractive woman -- and has come under fire for their liberal usage of words like “Guido“ and “Guidette,“ which many have argued as adhering to Italian-American stereotypes.

Abercrombie & Fitch is also no stranger to controversy. The all-American retailer has come under fire in the past for a range of topics ranging from negative stereotyping to sexually explicit material and employment practices.

that's incredible. where did you happen to read this? good to see someone still has some common sense in this world!

i am glad to read that also

82cj7son, its funny you us the term common sense. we were just instructed not to use that term in any meetings or when talking to people. i am a supervisor for a shop and apparently some people think the phrase "use common sense" is negative and complained to the union who went to our commander and cpac about it

wow. I lost slightly more faith in our society. I can understand how that can be taken negative but if I were told a question I'd asked were "common sense" I'd be motivated to learn more about it instead of being upset.

Abercrombie & Fitch (among others) has no basis to complain about how their products are used. They have used young children in their ads, and exploited them sexually for quite some time. It is one thing to exploit adults who can make their own informed decisions, but I draw the line with using children. :x

"Common sense"...a lost art in this world today!

Seriously fellas! Who cares! Kind of reminds me of Tommy Hilfiger's racial comments of the 90s in reference to black people wearing his clothes. I say screw abercrombie and fitch. Part of being young is partying and enjoying your youth. I may speak for myself but I did both. If I were the cast, I would use my influence on the young audience and boycott that company.
It's like Chrysler paying us jeep folks to stop lifting our rigs, or like some people stop putting unnecessary chrome on our rigs, or stop riding on trails. It's 2011, let's move on!
I like the show its very funny and entertaining.

i fall into that no watching tv group. especially that show. my wife watched it a few times and i had to leave the room it was so stupid. who cares if some dumb asses and some heavy chicks are trying to get laid. the dudes suck at it and the girls are way to easy to make it interesting.

good tv went away a while back, not sure what happened, maybe all the good tv show writers died? but reality shows are all crap, waste of time, and a mental waste.. "can you dance"?
