a little more please

I want to look into just a little more lift than I have now.
Are coil spring spacers worth the time and effort?
What about the rear?

I currently have a Rusty's 3 inch AAL.
I also need to address the need to recenter my front axle with a adjustable drag link, any links to good deals would be appreciated.

thanks 90

RE: shackles question (spring over)

You'll need new longer lower control arms if you're running stock arms, if you add to your current overall spring height. Your overall lift would be around 5", and I strongly recommend a long-arm conversion for anything that height.

And how would you gain the lift in the back?

The track bar (also called panhard bar) is what centers the front axle. either spend the cash on an adjustible that can grow when your lift does, or redrill the hole in the lower mount about .25" or so to the driver's side, whatever amount it takes to recenter your axle.

Try the Rocky road outfitter's 2" budget boost. Use the front 2" spacer and the rear shackle (1.5"), and discard the 1/2" lift block unless your tail end is lower than the front now. You can discard the front stock coil isolator and it should sit level.

The rear shackle will help with pinion angle. You may want to/should order a set of front lower control arms, but I haven't yet and it is doable.

For the re-centering of the axle, you'll need an adjustable track bar (not drag link). I have the RE (cheaper of the two they make) and it worked well, but there are many out there.

That is pretty much the same setup I have (3" lift and 2" BB minus the block and front isolator). I used the Skyjacker TC drop and have zero driveline vibes and with the shackles the pinion angle is right on.

RE: extended cranking time

My setup nets around 4.5". Re-drilling the stock trackbar is a good fix for a 3", but you will find that at 4+ inches an adjustable trackbar is a must.

I would agree that 5" is probably a good threshold for going to a long arm setup, that's why I omitted my 1/2" block and front isolator.

The only issue I have with the stock arms right now is the pinion angle. The ride is a little stiffer than it needs to be but it is not too bad. I do plan on getting adjustable lower front control arms though and you might as well order a set and do it all at once.

leaks and noise

Sorry,
I forgot to mention, i already have rustys longer than stock Lower Control arms, but the uppers are stock. I also have lowered the TC one inch.

I want to go up an extra 1 to 1+ 1/2 inches, I know I will need the axle centered. I think the adjustable bar is what I want.

If drive angle becomes an issue, how bout just a slip yoke illiminator?
What will the extra inch(s) do to my brake lines?
I never installed the rusty's POS brake line bracket. That thing was designed by a bigger moron than me.

My rig drives like a dream, no death wobble and handles great on and off road. I know I run a risk of messing with the ride.

You can relocate the lines like I did, or replace them with longer ones.

My TC drop is a 1 1/2" and I have no problems. One thing about the slip yoke, the newer XJ's have a longer slip yoke than the older ones. If you go too high you run the risk of it slipping out. They also make longer ones, but if youre going to go through all that a SYE would be the best bet.

Well, I have been out of town for a good ole sales meeting for the past couple of days and on the way back I dropped by a 4Wheel Parts Wholesale store in Austin.
I told them about my ride and wanting to lift it a little more.
The guys behind the counter told me that I can use the stock rear shackle from a 88-98 chevy truck to get 1 more inch in the back and then like we have already talked about, use a spring spacer for the front.

Well... what do you think? Have you ever heard of such a thing?
They claim that the Chevy shackles will bolt right up.

RE: Re: Simple Axle Question...

I hadn't heard of that. Ought to be cheap enough to find out!

RE: jeep jamboree charlotsville va mar18-20

Have any of you installed one of these budget boost, AFTER already having a 3" kit on?

I am thinking it should just add to what I have.
Any advice?

my roommate is actually doing what you speak of to his XJ this weekend, adding that boost onto his existing 3". i'll let you know how it turns out for him. i know he bought a set of shims (not sure which angle) just incase and a new track bar cause he will def need that. but like i said, ii'll let you know what the end result is.

Awesome. I will look forward to hearing the results.
Twisted gave me the idea, I just wanted to hear what someone's results were in a similar situation.

I have already dropped my transfer case 1" and plan on a dropped track bar since I already have 3" on lift to start.

I don't expect to have to deal with much more than a longer brake line.

You are going to want longer control arms. Like I said before you can get away with the stock ones (I am for now), but it will ride alot better and the pinion angle will be correct.

I have been putting off replacing mine for too long and they're going to get done soon.
