A good place to live?

So after finding out that I didnt get the job I was trying for here at home in Indiana, I'm looking at some other states. So can anybody tell me anything good/bad about living in other states, specifically Georgia, Iowa, Alabama, Louisiana, and possibly florida? Maybe a few pictures of some of the country there? These are all states im looking at possibly applying at and would like some opinions on them.

Jacksonville Florida?? I go to school there and the city is big and growing and the beaches are great!

I'd say Michigan, but I'd be lying...

Even though I love this state dearly, and will NEVER leave if I can at all help it, the job market is beyond horrible, and the taxes are high, not at all good for your current situation. Heads up on THAT...

I'd personally steer clear of Florida and any city along the ocean, as the cost of living is outrageous in those areas.

Well, I moved from Ohio to Florida back in '86 and stayed there 17 years. Gotta love the weather....I guess that's why I stayed so long. There's tons and tons of work.....I took a big cut when I moved down, but eventually made more than I ever could have hoped to in Ohio......trust me, good help is HARD to find. Gotta put up with sand and bugs, though.......there's tons and tons of both. Never cared for Georgia (very negative experiences there). Louisiana may be on my horizon......I'll let you know. It's probably either Louisiana or Mississippi.

But as far as my spirit goes, I'm right now living in heaven - the mountains of North Carolina!!!! Not much work around (at least that pays much) but great, great hard-working people - very independent and hearts as big as the planet.

DON'T MOVE TO OHIO!!!!!

think some one is a little bias against Utah...we have it all...high mountain...to low deserts.
And the job market is going strong

Well, Iowa is great i have been here 3 years, seems to have a pretty good job market, I live Western Iowa just across the river from Omaha Ne Metro, Only thing i don't like about iowa is can't own machine gun, or silencer but they do have conciled weapons License. I am pro gun for the MOST part. but anyways Cold winters when it does snow, NICE weather in spring and fall, hummid summers, Friendly people lots of places to fish, camp, hunt, lots of dirt roads, though i have only been here 3 years and havn't found 4x4 trails there are some nice places to Kayak or Canoe if your into that even mountain bike and 4 wheeler trails. I guess, thats my 2 cents I love Western Iowa. 100 times better then SW kansas ;)

First things first, stay clear of Texas! That might just be my current bad luck with the state (long story) but it is grey, flat, and it's full of lifted show trucks that never see the mud.

Now what you need to consider is Portland, OR. It is in the center of everything. 2 hrs. drive to Seattle, 1.5 hr. drive to good skiing, 1 hr. drive to the beach, great fishing, and Jeep trails everywhere. Only problem is the state government and job market. Oh yeah, coffee and micro brewerys everywhere, if your into that stuff. Washington's a descent state also.

Ya know, I've always had a secret desire to live in Portland....either there or Seattle, don't know why. Just like the weather and the landscape, I guess. An ex-girlfriend lives in Portland now, and I almost married her and went with her, but sobered up just in time. She's a sculptor for places like The Franklin Mint. Very, very talented person!

Wow, a lot of response. I guess I should make it clear. Im trying to become a Conservation officer (Game warden might be what your used to calling them) so some states get left out in a hurry (Mud, as much as I think i'd like N. Carolina, they require a 4 year degree, or experience in law enforcement, I only have a 2 year degree. Same with Tennessee, which Id love, and many western states.) Im avoiding big cities at all costs, I HATE cities. Anyway, thanks guys, and keep it coming!!

Well, DANG, Green!!! I totally understand North Carolina government.....your worth is definitely determined by a piece of paper (degree). Gotta agree that is sucks (their loss, in my opinion). If you're still thinkin' Florida, check out Ocala National Forest....pretty cool place and low cost of living. Best of luck!!!

Dude,
3 words of advice if you like the outdoors, wheeling in the desert, the snow, the mountains, mud & beach.......

OR-EE--GUN (thats oregon mud4, I know the hyphens got ya confused a bit!)

:0) (just kidding bud)

Well, I can tell you all about Alabama. The cost of living, state taxes and housing are reasonably low. Boat loads of pretty women. We have beaches, rivers, mountains, plains, swamps and everything in between. Wildlife is overflowing here. Deer Hunting season is probably one of the longest and most liberal in the country. Deer Hunting goes from mid October to the end of January. Limits are TWO A DAY... 2 doe or 1 buck+1 doe. Spring Turkey limits are 5 per season. Game Wardens use the robot deer to catch poachers (saw them using it once, looked like good entertainment).
I would care nothing for living in Mississippi or Louisiana, but there may be some good job opportunities for a Game Warden there.
Georgia would be about the same environment as AL, except the cost of living might be higher if you are anywhere near the coast or ATL.
Florida has a reasonable cost of living except coastal or waterfront property. However, the kicker is that FL has no state income taxes. There probably won't be much excitement as far as policing deer and turkey, but the marine wildlife aspect should be plentiful.

Funny you should say that Red...I was living in AZ and was hunting on the Rim area and got lost on which canyon I was in..ending up hiking over two till I found the one I was looking for.
As I crested the canyon rim I saw this perfect 5 point buck munching grass next to the road.
Well I lined up the scope and shot it! Trophy time I thought!

Needless to say it fell over like a stiff brick. Oh ya a trophy buck!

Next thing I knew a bunch of AZ game and fish guys jump out of this well made blind yelling at me cease firing and to get my a*s down there!
You know running sounded pretty good at that moment.
Needless to say after getting my license check...my gun and a full hour of being yelled at, they let me go.
But Bambi 3 didn't like my .300 win mag...they had to unpack Bambi four.
I didn't even get to cut off my trophy horns! how rude of them!

We had the Wardens come down to the property we hunt at the request of the landowner. We had people shooting at deer out of our hayfields from the road, not knowing there was an occupied house in the treeline in the background. The Wardens came by and talked to us, then put out the decoy and hid. When a car would come down the road, they would hit a switch that blinked two red lights to simulate a deers eyes in the headlights. I thought that was sketchy, but whatever.
The first arrest was made not 30 minutes after dark. We were standing by the fire at our camphouse and heard a shot. A moment later, a truck towing a bass boat came flying by. We saw blue lights at the 4 way stop .25 mile away where they cut him off. The dude was hauling a$$ and had lost several life jackets out of the boat trying to get away. They arrested him, took his truck, gun and boat. We drank beer and laughed about it. We heard several more shots later that night but never investigated (too many beers).
