first let me start by saying i'm new to the jeepz forum and would appreciate any help that could be given. about a month ago my 99 cherokee sport 4x4 4.0 with 175,00 miles started leaking coolant in between the engine and bell housing so i droped the transmission and changed the freeze plugs to make it easier to put the transmission back in we split the transfer case from the transmission and i had the bright idea to change my transmission fluid including fluid in torque converter, filter, and gasket. we installed the transmission and transfer case and filled with fluid when i started the car i had a check engine light i put it into drive it made some noises and after letting it set in gear for a minute or so everthing smoothed out when i put it in reverse the wheels wouldnt spin, so we decide to drive around and try to get fluid to gears after about 15 of driving ,with no problems the transmission shifted through gears smoother than the day mydad bought it in 99 , i shifted it into reverse and it started moving a little rough but it was moving, we checked fluid and drove to gas station and put it in reverse and it idled smooth i was too happy, i drive home park it in the driveway thinking all is well. i reverse out of driveway no problem and drive to the store a little while later come out of the store to leave and have no reverse it just revs. anyway i drive to autozone to have them check the codes for the ce light and it comes back "shift solenoid wiring electrical" is this my no reverse problem and if so what is it and how do i fix it,can i? its wierd when i put it in drive,12,or 3 you feel the transmission go into gear but when i put it in reverse you don't feel anything the only other thing i could think of was maybe the shift linkage was off but it goes into every other gear fine.Is there anything else it could be i really hope its not the end for the transmission i love my jeep and this has me stumped.

After verifying that your fluid is within the specified level after warm up, start by verifying the shift cable is adjusted properly first. If it still has no reverse, check the wiring connectors going to the valve body solenoids by dropping the trans pan. Chances are, the wiring got disturbed when you initially removed the trans. for the freeze plug replacement. Welcome to Jeepz.
