i believe that the viscous coupling is bad in my GC, it feels like it is always in 4x4 it has a 5.2 litre v8 and a 249 transfer case.when turning sharp to either direction it does the lurching that a vehicle would do when in 4x4 on dry pavement. my question is that if i remove the front drive shaft will it be ok to use the vehicle this way and not cause any more damage to the transfer case?
thanks for a quick reply

I wouldn't recommend running without the front DS.

I would check into converting to a 242 or 231 transfer case, either option will need the input shaft from the 249 installed into the new case.

Do a search for 249/242 or 249/231 swap and you will learn a lot. The 249 is problematic and often discarded.
