97 TJ low oil pressure

I have a 97 TJ that uses no oil , no smoke and runs really good. However , when creeping at very low RPM , it shows no oil pressure and I get the check engine light. At highway speeds the gauge shows 40 LBS and drops to 20 at the stop lights. Do I need a new oil pump ? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Ron:???:

I'll second that opinion! Going through similar issues with my '03 4banger........oil level's fine, no smoke, no other issues. Bought a new sending unit and will update my findings once it's installed. Mine only trips the "lights, buzzers, and bells" when it drops to idle speed........and not always. I KNOW my oil pressure doesn't fluctuate that much. A new sending unit is a cheap fix(diagnosis). Keep us posted.

I'll try the sending unit. Sounds like a good first step any way and maybe I'll get lucky. I should have it in by tomorrow. Thanks, Ron
