i have 97 wrangler with a 4.0 auto trans and it is starting to slip but only on days when it is really cold out side and after about 5 to 10 min of driving after it warms up it is fine do u think it needs to be rebulit or is there anything to adjust thanks for any help

check and make sure you have the proper amount of fluid in there and the rite fluid. if u dont have enough fluid it might just take a while for the pump to get the fluid circulating

I would bet the filter needs to be changed.
I like to add a quart or two of B&Ms Trick Shift fluid when I do a fluid/filter change, it will firm-up the shifts a little. Does the TJ use the 32RH/999 transmission? As long as the pan is off doing a filter change, it would be a good time to add an RV/towing type shift kit if anybody makes one for your Jeep. A shift kit will make the transmission live longer by speeding up the shifts, which will reduce wear on the friction surfaces during the shift.

thanks guys but the fluid is full and i only have about 5000 mi. on it since i last changed the filter i saw in my haynes manual that there were some kind of adjustment screws or something i dont know much about trans so i was just wondering if anybody knew if there was anything i could do to it myself

yea there are bands in the trans that you can adjust but i dont know too much about adjusting the bands. i never really needed to do that or heard of that needing to be done.

In the front of that Haynes manual, Chapter 1 I think, it says that all you need to worry about is keeping proper fluid in it, and let a professional transmission shop, or repair shop do the adjusting. My $.02

Need Info on lift springs

I have a 97 .. does the exact same thing ... I usually just let it warm up .. but I know when I'm not around my beautiful wife just hops in and gases the hell out of it till it goes or pops into gear ... so make sure you are the only one driving it....
