I use my daylighters often, but for road use (I have yet to use them offroad). Of course, I drive the 600 miles between Panama and San José, Costa Rica every 3 months, and it pretty dark. But to be honest, 2 daylighters do just fine for me... When I go offroad, there is ussually someone in front, so I cannot use the bright lights anyway.
I agree that in IL, these lights are overkill; the only way I can justify them is if you are driving offroad at 100mph, and I doubt that's the kind of driving done in IL. I would rather have a couple of daylighters up front, and some flood lights to the sides and rear (some cheap tractor lights would be just find; these are SUPER helpful when wheeling and setting up camp).
But, to each his own. If you feel spending $1,000 on a pair of lights, who am I to say that's a bad idea (especially considering all the crap I've got in my Jeep!)?
