Hey guys I am new here. I have owned my '93 YJ for 4 years now. Since day 1 I have had this pesky fuel gauge problem. Fuel gauge works fine until 1/2 tank. Then it appears to "hang" at 1/2. This gets really grates my OCD. I am going to try and drop the tank to do further investigation. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance for your help in this matter.

My gauge has been quirky since i bought it too. It hangs at full till it's almost empty and then it moves down a little. I've learned to live with it. I probably should have fixed it when i had the tub off, But i didn't. On one old jeep that i had i cut a 3 sided square just above the sending unit and folded it up to get to it.

Before you drop the tank, take the gage cluster out and clean the contacts and wires first. Then make sure the grounds are good. That fixed mine when I first got it

First get a good light, and look at the gauge closely. If the little pivot for the pointer is white, it is a cheap "China" gauge.
The gas, and temperature gauges are built using heater wire wound around a bimetal spring, that flexes when heated.
When the plastic part gets hot it melts.
Mine is a '78 so don't know it yours works the same as mine, but if it does, it can give many hours of lost sleep.
I did fix mine, but I opted to completely redesign mine, as that is what I did before retirement.
You may find some aid in my post "fuel and temperature gauge nightmares"
Good luck, I have a lot of information about the fuel, and temp. wiring.
