I just bought a 88 jeep Cherokee, and When I start it,It will drop idle almost to die, then idle perfect and repeat, until it is warmed up, If I put it into gear before letting it warm up for 10 min., it will die.
I was told, once past this point, It runs fine but once It's been on a trail for a long period of time it will shut off, and all I will have to do is turn the key and it will start right back up.
Q: does this sound like a bad Knock sensor?
What else might I check?

also: I noticed it has about a qrt too much oil in it!( that may or may not be relevent)...love triing to figure out what others have done, and why. :???::lol:

Sounds like the CPS. You can disconnect the knock sensor and the motor will run (but it won't retard the timing if it's pinging) The oil could be drawn into the intake breather and stall it because it's too full. More than 1/2 a quart over is too much.
