hey all:

obvioulsy im new to this site and i gotta tell ya, i wish i new about this place when i got my 1st jeep :)

but anywhoo, back to my problems.

i have a 1987 jeep wagoneer 4.0 I6 with a 5spd mans transmission. i love this jeep! only problem is im moving for a summer job in less than a week and im driving this jeep 900 miles to this job.

prob. A) my rear differential is leakin. i popped the cork and i felt oil, but i really had mto search for it. and it started leaking once i replaced both U-joints on the Rear Drivetrain, so im guessing that it is leaking from the pinion seal but im not sure. i drive around town in it and i have lost a lot of power, and the cab starts shaking when i acclerate and decelerate. could this be the problem and how hard is it to replace a pinion seal?

prob. B) on hot days, i can drive the jeep around for about ten miles and funally park it and when i do and i get out of the cab, i hear hissing coming from my antifreeze/coolant reservoir, i recently popped the hood and checked it out thoroughly and the hissing is pressurized coolant all over the place. i tried tightening the hose clamp and it is STILL doing it. what can i do???

Lost a lot of power, accelerate and decelerate and cab is shaking, Could it be a misfire?, does it idle rough?. A leaking pinion seal usualy would sling some fluid on it's surrounding areas like the bottom of the tub and would also show on the bottom end of the differential housing. If that pinion seal IS leaking, remove the drive shaft, pinion nut and pull the pinion yoke off then replace the seal. Another place wher it would leak is on the differential cover. As for the coolant leak, you should be able to pinpoint the leak if there's coolant all over the place under the hood. Isolate where the most saturated area is and you should visually see the actual source of where it's coming from.

it idles just fine. no roughness in idling or odd things occuring. i just new plugs in. if they're under gapped or overgapped would that cause it to lose power?

than it is my pinion seal leaking. there is gear oil all down the bottom of the differential. and that sounds easy enough to fix.

and the coolant i know where its leaking from. its leaking from where the hose actually goes into the plastic reservoir. i tightened the hose clamp and if it gets hot it still sprays out

I'd just replace it. You can buy a replacement rubber hose and some hose clamps at your local auto parts store for next to nothing.

im probably going to. i just want to make sure that it wont blow up lol
