hey all

topic vehicle: 1985 Cherokee 5 speed, V6 carb'd motor (you know the reputation)...

the question... what will swap in easily? I'm thinking 4.0 but i've never researched it... will it need an adapter? motor mounts? different cooling system? extensive wiring hassles?

Yes to all of the above, 4.0L would be the tough route to take to have just another 4.0L jeep. Consider a 3.1L or 3.4L GM v6 or a 4.3L Vortec if you want to do it right the first time.

The 4.0L XJ has more firewall clearance, as well as a different front clip.

RE: Cross Drilled or Slotted

oh man how sweet would a supercharged 4.3L vortec in a cherokee be. the engine alone has enough power to do bout anything.

RE: New Wrangler

In my opinion, I'd look into the GM, 4.3L Vortec engine. There's tons of parts and good stuff out there for them, and they have a good amount of power in completely stock form.

As for what all will fit best in a Cherokee, I can't really help much there.

3 YJ rear driveshafts

4.3L is a good choice for a short wide engine bay like where your 2.8L currently resides. Great engine.
