'83 CJ7 Ignition Problem

OK guys...I have an ignition problem in my '83 CJ7 with 4.2. It will just die while driving some times. Other times it will not start. There is no pattern that I can figure out. Some times if I turn the ignition off and then start it, it will start right up. Other times I will have to try many times in order to get it to start. My father told me to look at the wiring and move it around looking for a short. That has not helped. I'm looking for any advice as to what it might be.

Junkpile,
My dad also mentioned that. I just cannot seem to find any wire that when wiggled or moved will cause it to die.

Redneckgroundhog,
My friend told me to look for the Motorcraft module as well. He said that it would be on the fender or firewall. I could not find it there. The wires that come off the distributor run across the engine compartment and through the firewall on the drivers side. I guess that I would need to trace them under the dash to find the module.

I had that happen. It never died while running, but just wouldn't start sometimes for no apparent reason. Changed out that module and it worked ever since.

I found it under the coolant overflow bottle and winshield washer bottle. The only way to see that thing is to stick your head down next to the header. Thanks. I'll replace that this weekend and see if it helps.
