Eight young people trapped in Angeles National Forest, four of them overnight, were rescued by firefighters this afternoon after their cars became stuck while driving in a restricted area of the forest.

Firefighters have not identified members of the group. Four of the youngest were treated for dehydration and exposure, but none were injured or hospitalized, said L.A. County Fire Inspector Sam Padilla.

Four of the young people two men and two women, ages 18 to 20 -- got stuck in the mud while driving an Isuzu Amigo into a restricted area of the park at 11 p.m. Monday, Padilla said.

The group called four friends, all male, who drove to their aid in a Jeep Wrangler and also got stuck, Padilla said.

The group used a cellphone to call firefighters at 1:51 p.m. today and were rescued soon after, Padilla said. They will be fined by the U.S. Forest Service for trespassing, Padilla said.

I can't imagine that these guys go off trail in a national forrest, then get air lifted out, and all they get is a fine.

I wonder if they got their 4x4s out / back?

There is a good chance that they will get billed for the resuce. I have seen it happen several times before in other states.

I didn't see where it said they got airlifted.
When I was in high school, they closed down areas of the nearby national forest to motorized traffic. We were told that the FS could write you a ticket and confiscate your vehicle. I never saw it in writing or heard of that happening to anyone, though I'm sure they at least wrote some tickets. It was a popular place to ride for probably 40 years.
