75 pound ball of fire

If it seems like I am bragging... well I am a bit.

My son is undefeated in the Junior 75 lb class so far. 6-0, 4 of them pins. The really impressive part is the two wins he had that were not by pin were both shutouts. So far no one has gone the distance with him and scored a single point. One more league match, and if he wins in that one he'll be seeded #1 going into the big tournament at the end of the wrestling season. It's a "State Qualifier"

I'm pretty proud of the little guy. He's been working really hard at it for years now and it's all coming together for him 8)

here's a video of him wrestling the "#1" 75 pounder from Red Lion, PA. Taylor wrestles for Spring Grove, and is in the blue singlet:

Oh, and google video puts links to other vids on the side of the screen. They are random, and I have nothing to do with them ;)

Nice, quick move on the leg-grab.....that other kid didn't know what hit 'im!!!

Hope he sticks with it, TC. Wrestling's a great sport......wish I'd have stuck with it. I played football and went through those 2-a-days in late August.........they pale in comparison to a "normal" wrestling practice!! It's truly amazing how much you give of yourself in those few minutes on the mat.

Best wishes for your son!!! The muds will be rooting for him!

Great stuff! I love wrestling, it's one of the ultimate sports. I'm a former wrestler myself took 3rd in state.

It's definitely a character builder. I hope he sticks with it!

Very cool I wish I wasn't so old, my bones don't hold up like they used to.

Good for him and good for you as an AVID supporter.

ALL of you dads or moms, never apologize for braggin' on your kids.

I've worked with a lot of young men and women over the last 10 years (I am a Boy Scout and Venturing leader) and find myself and other adult leaders as the only "parental" cheering section some kids have.

To many times, our units have had quarterly Courts of Honor (award ceremonies) and Johnny is getting a rank advancement after working on it for 9 - 12 months and both mom and dad are a no-show.

I've heard all the excuses ... poker, football game, busy at work ... sorry for the rant as it is definitely a "hot button" issue with me.

Proud, and SUPPORTIVE, parents deserve a congratulations as well!!

Good Lord! That boy is QUICK!!! I'm thinkin' when he turns 16, ya better not deny him the car keys, TC!
Ah, this is why I am getting him fired up about Jeeps and offroading. He knows well that a thrill can be had at a crawl ;)

Congrats TC. Tell him I said good job and keep up the good work.
And TWDJ I am an Eagle scout and my father was very much involved, but I know exactly what you mean. We had kids who I never saw their parents in all the years I was in.

Yeah there are the parents who drop their kids off at Baseball (I manage a team every year) like we are running a day care center

you must be feeding the boy slick 50 cause it was fast and fluid the other cat really didnt expeect it hahah nice !!... i wish i'd done summin cool like that when i was in school hahah

Well I know this: The year I gave up sports was the last year I stayed out of trouble as a kid. I will do everything I can to encourage all my kids to play sports and stick with them, without putting too much pressure on them - and that is the hard part - finding and not crossing that fine line between the two. So often I see Dads cross the line from encouragement to pressure, and they end up discouraging instead. That's when you see some of them lose interest or become disheartened. I know 'cause sadly that's why I quit.

Every now and again the competitive nature starts to take over and I have to re-focus on the true prize: Having my kid(s) play sports with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Sports (like Mud said) are one of the biggest character building things kids can get involved in, but they can also cause scars that run deep if you are not careful.

I didn't mention that he has impressed me most by his demeanor, win or lose. He leaves most of the bragging to me

Big tournament Saturday in Dover... I'm biting my nails already. This one should set the bar for the big one at the end of the season as most of the kids he'll face will be there

So true ... as a parent it is difficult to sit on your hands sometimes.

I'm always amazed at the pressure the kids feel WITHOUT any from their own folks ... internal competitiveness, teammates, peers, coaches (sometimes), other parents (don't get me started), etc.

That is why I always congratulate parents as well as their kids. It takes a strong commitment by both for a youth to succeed.

Well I know this: The year I gave up sports was the last year I stayed out of trouble as a kid................

Well, you're not alone, TC. I know that feeling all too well. And I've always been a little guy, so wrestling was the way to go.

Big tournament Saturday in Dover...
Well that was ugly :purple:

Kids were there from all over Pa and Maryland too. He only won one bout (his first). The kid (from Baltimore) that beat him won the tournament, but it was a bummer getting knocked out of it so early.

That does suck!!! Shame it wasn't a double-elimination.........never know - they might have met again in the final!

Anyway, you could tell him he's one of many that finished second................but I know that wouldn't really help. Hopefully, it'll just strengthen his resolve!!! Even the best have been beat a few times.

Make sure he sticks with it. My brother wrestled in high school, and if i could go back to freshman year i would. He placed 3rd in states his senior year, and was offered a scholarship to a local state school umass ahmerst. He turned it down though he thinks he has a better shot in the marines.

Nothing to be ashamed of there, TC. At least he made it to that big tourney!! And, from the sound of it, I'm sure he'll just work harder for the next one.

I heard on the news the other day about a high school wrestling team that hasn't lost a match since 1971!! Or maybe they haven't lost a tournament since then, but anyway, I thought that was incredible!

You know what i find weird? How a town and high school can breed good athletes in a specific sport. Like Andover the rich town over, breeds hockey and lacrosse players like they were built in a science lab. Its amazing that they can carry their reign over so long. I dont understand how they continually have a good program. I know it starts lower on the younger kids. But im telling you they're like pros.
