Re: 73 jeep rebuild 10 soa kit

I have to agree with bounty, that looks scary. You want your tie rods to be as close to parralel (spelling) with eachother as you can. A suggestion would be install a tierod flip kit, that will put your tierods on top of your knuckles instead of under them and use a 4" lift kit drop pitman arm. This will bring your tierods pretty close to parralel. The closer you can get them to parralel, the better it will drive and handle. I know this adds expense to the build but I wouldnt trust that draglink the way it is now.

Re: 73 jeep rebuild 10 soa kit

I notice it looks like you have 4 ubolt plates on the front axles. Consider only using two (one per side) as it is in the stock setup. You can run square ubolts around the leaf packs and down to a ubolt plate, or round ubolts around the axletubes and up to a ubolt plate for better ground clearance.

Good. Keep posting pics, great to see a Jeep build progress. Ask if you run into any hurdles and maybe someone on here can save you time and money.

Re: 73 jeep rebuild 10 soa kit

i did look at my instructions after your comment on the skid plates and noticed that my bolts are in upside down. there are counter sunk holes in the bottom skid that allow the bolt head to recess in the plate helping with clearance. ill fix that

Re: 73 jeep rebuild 10 soa kit

If you don't use the tierod flip kit (I never have) I would for sure get the 4" drop pitman arm and a straight draglink, the pitman arm will help a lot and possibly be all you may need.

Re: 73 jeep rebuild 10 soa kit

What is up with the drag link? That was a kit? Someone actualy sells this?

I would highly suggest buying a steering kit from Ruff Stuff, they are having a 15% discount right now on them.

Re: 73 jeep rebuild 10 soa kit

ok sounds good. my problem immediately is my driveshafts. my front is now too short and the angle on my rear is extreme. I'm guessing i lengthen the front and get some kind of cv joint for the rear. i don't have 4-5 hundred dollars to buy the whole shaft. is there a way to buy just the cv u joint

Re: 73 jeep rebuild 10 soa kit

You can try a tcase drop kit, or make your own. All it is, is a 1" spacer that go,s between your skid plate (trany xmember) and the frame. You can use 1" square tubing, its simple. They also sell degree shims for the rear that go,s between your spring plate and your spring that angles the rearend to lessen the ujoint angle. The two should lessen your angles quite a bit. as for the front, if you have a v8 I think the 6cyl front shafts are longer, not possitive though.

look for a cherokee front drive shaft in the junk yard, you can shorten it and run it in the rear of your CJ
