70s CJ5 seat brackets

As most of you know Ive got a 75 CJ. This was the last year for the underseat toolbox. During my resto the tool box was ixnayed due to costs and the availability issues with the seat brackets for this year.
I put some "good enough for now" brackets in, but Im thinking now that Ive gone this route, why not upgrade to 76 and up brackets? Then I can buy new seats etc.
Does anyone know 1st hand if Im good to go, now that the toolbox isnt there? Are the tubs basically the same in the seat area?

No they are not the same. The trans tunnel is shaped diff, which I believe makes a diff as to where and how the seat brackets mount. although, I think you should be able to make them work with out to much trouble, as I have seen earlies with the later brackets in them, and they didn't appear modified.

I have searched for a better answer for you, and its not looking to favorable. I have posted your question on a earlycj forum and will get a definitive answer soon.

Seem this may not work with out major mods, not many people have responded to my question on the other site but those that have say the floor layout is totally diff. Im still waiting on a better explanation and will let you know what I find out.

Thanks, I really appreciate all your legwork! Wasnt ignoring your posts, was away from the pc for a few days. What a pain :-|

I think it would be easier to fab entire seat brackets from scratch. The trans tunnel is different & the floor under the seats is different. The brackets for the later models have leg lengths to fit the floor shape(all 4 legs for each seat are different lenghts).

I have to agree with TLcj5, It may be easier to just fab your own brackets. If you have a full cage you could do something like this to mount the seats.
