6 cyl and 4 cyl to a trans

I have a 5 speed trans on my sucky 4cyl. My buddy works at a machine shop and occasionally gets a hold of a 6cyl. We are going to swap to the 6 but I'm not sure if my current transmission will match up. I think it's the T5, but not sure. (1989)

Also, would I be able to keep my fuel injection system or should I move to the carbuerator? Will I need a bigger Radiator? Alternator? What about the clutch? Basically, how clean of a swap is this going to be?

Thanks for any input.

I have a 91 wrangler and i've been looking at a swap myself, I've done some research and found that the 4.0 swap isnt neccesarily the best idea, if you're looking into putting the money into swapping an engine you can easily do a V8 swap for not to much more. The transmission, i believe is the AX4, atleast thats what mine is, and it will not hold up to the power of the 4.0 so it would have to be swapped, also im not sure if the starter alternator and all would work either, but my estimates to swap a 4.0 in my 91 would have been around $3,500 with labor, and to do the 350 v8 swap will only be about $1,000 more....well worth the extra grand considering a 4.0 swap wont do much to raise the resale value of your jeep, while the v8 will, and its a big plus if you like going to shows, and on top of it all, you cant mess with 330 HP!

So are those $ estimates including everything you need to start up your jeep and drive it to the trail? I mean starter, radiator, carb, and all? The labor is where I would save the money. Me and my buddy could do all that at his machine shop. The V8 sounds tasty, but I truthfully don't want 330 horses. That's thing will suck gas like a circus freak blowing fire. Cause if I get an 8, then we're talking axle changes, lockers and before you know it, my $5k jeep is a $15k jeep. Which is nice and all, but the rest of it is still 13 years old. Might as well buy a newer one with all the mods already on it buy some guy whose wife is making him sell it. All in all, I just want enough power to not have to hide my face when I tell people I've only got a 4 cylinder. [addsig]

I have no same in my 4 banger its all in the gears and unless your doing time hill climbs, if not then you dont need speed, drop your gears down get a locker, kiss your gas millage, goodbye, be happy and only spend around a 1000 since you have someone with a machine shop then you have no labor charge besides the 4.0 is still underpowerd ask anyone who goes off the beatin path. also read the cheap hp quick post, i got a good gain in hp cheap and someone posted about paxton making forced air induction, for the 2.5 just my opinion though

good luck [addsig]
