5 point harness setup?

Well I'm in the market for a new seatbelt, both sides accually... both are shot one way or the other. I was going to just get a 3 point factory type from quadratec but then I was looking in the Summit Racing catalog and for the the same price as the 3 point I can get a 5 point... so why not upgrade?

The thing is I wouldn't know how to mount it, there are 2 types: Roll bar mounts or Wraparound. The Roll bar mount is self explainatory, but I don't have enough roll bar to mount it to. The Wraparound mounts to the floor which means I have to fab some bracket.

I was wondering if anyone has put a 5 point harness in thier wrangler and could help me out. I should say that I still do have my stock seats, and if I can get away with sticking with those that would be great. Thanks for any advice.

I heard if you put the 5 point belts on the floor..if you get in an accient its going to mess up your back real good. its gotta be on a pivot or directly behind the seat shoulder height.

Really? Damn, why would they sell that option then? If I mount anything at shoulder height I will have to add to my existing roll bar... dunno if I wanna do that yet. My other option is a pivot? How does that work?

like your shoulder strap on your roll bar for the standard belt..a pivot puts it at shoulder height. But if its a 5 point system i'm pretty sure its gotta be centered behind the seat to work properly...might as well weld a bar across..how many passengers ya put in the back? make 'em crawl under or over it.

They talked about that on TRUCKS. I believe they did weld in another bar behind the seat. That was the episode witht eh TOMBRAIDER Jeep.

Yeah I remember that episode of trucks... they had those master craft seats to hold the harness in place though. I don't feel like buying new seats right now though, especially since the ones i want are 300 a piece.
Thanks for the info guys, looks like I'm stickin with standard belts... dang it.

Your top part of the harness for sure has to be at your shoulder height of it will compress your spine in a front crash, you have to weld a bar across your rollbar to mount this (equal to the stock shoulder strap) job done you'll never fall out.

You can mount the shoulder belts to the floor. BUT! they have to come up above the shoulder, though the seat and back down the front to the latch. There are specially made 5 point seats out there and some are very reasonably priced. NEVER have the mounting point of the shoulder harness above the shoulder. About the middle of your back is the prime spot though. A great spot is the verticle part of the pan, just before the rear seat.
