What happened? Did the 4x4 light come on? The most common problem is that the front axle lock doesn’t engage due to a vacuum leak. The fix is a new vacuum line kit but it could be the actuator motor its self too.

need a bit more info. what do you mean by didn't wanna kick in? wouldn't engage in 4wd or you had it in 4x4 but front wheels weren't spinning?

I put it in 4wd an da front wheels wouldnt spin i think i do have an air leak cause i keeped on putting my transfer on 4wd an nothing would happen

could be that. check to see if your front drive shaft is spinning. if so then it's something in the diff. if not then maybe it's your t-case

His front shaft spins anyway, he dont have lockout hubs. I would think its a leak or the actuator itself. My brothers went out twice on him, I think the actuator motor was like 60 bucks.. I think there is a kit out there somewhere that elliminates the whole vac set up on the front axle. (not positive though, but seems I heard somthing about it.)

Ok guys all of a sudden my 4wd worked the light came on an t case working i could feel da front wheels spin a da jeep gettin heavier but it doesnt last long till da 4wd stops working??? I hava to get off an da swith on da bottom im guessing its da actuter i have to move it an disconect a green lil hose then hook it up again an the light comes on gain an 4wd starts working???

A YJ front shaft doesn't spin in 2wd from the movement of the front axle, but it does spin slowly due to the viscous action of the transfer case fluid. The front axle disconnect and open front diff prevent the front wheels from causing the front driveshaft to turn.

You definitely have a vacuum problem if moving the vacuum lines on the actuator makes it work. Try this. Pull the double vacuum line from the actuator and have a friend shift from 2wd to 4wd and back again while you feel for vacuum in each line. There should be strong vacuum switching between the two lines. If not, check the vacuum line condition. If they check out, it could be a bad vacuum switch attached to the transfer case. These switches are found in the Help section of the Auto Parts stores and are easy to replace.

If you want a permanent fix, remove the 4 bolts holding the disconnect motor to the front axle. Slide the axle collar into the locked position. Install the disconnect motor upside down and the shift fork with hold the axle collar in the locked position and you will have 4wd.
