4wd slow to engage

I have a 95 cherokee country with a selec trac. When I want to use 4wd at high speeds it has no problem going into 4wd but if I am going slower, say crawl to 40 kph, it goes in very slow. And a couple of times when I had the shifter back, 4wd light on, it wasn't really in because when I got back on the gas you could hear a slight gear noise. Any suggestions? Thanks[addsig]

thats pretty much normal.... at least mines does the same thing. i have found that if i'm going at lower speeds, shifting into 4wd and then running my gear selector (auto transmission) through all the options (park, reverse, neutral, drive) will get the 4wd to kick in... of course the pain of this method is you have to STOP to do it

I owned a '92 Cherokee Sport with the command trac, not selec trac and it would go into 4 wheel drive with no problems at all, high speed, low speed, didn't matter. Just wondering if this was a selec trac trait being slow[addsig]
