49 cj-3a motor swap.

hey im new to the sight and i had a few questions. I have a 1949 cj 3a that i am restoring. when i bought it from the previos owner there was a 260 inline six from a ford mustang. i was wondering if i cout bolt a 4.0L into the t-90. the jeep has a mechanical clutch.

I have a 95 cherokee for the doner vehical, i do not know what gen the motor is but it has the distributer on the side of the motor.

this is a project i have wanted to finish since my dad has passed, any info will help.

Thankyou.

4.0 will not fit its to long for the snub nose , 4.3 or origanal is prob the best bet pending on your pocket book I have a recond Fhead and bunch other stuff if you need anything

My 3B had the grill shoved forward 3" by PO and it really looked hokey. I am taking the extension off because of it and putting the grill back to stock position. There is a way to extend these short nosed Jeeps but I didn't care for it. They chopped out the 3" front cross member and ran it fore re-welding it and moved the steering box fore as well. Also another this to figure in is that the 3B was actually a 3A modified to accommodate the F134 in 53. Your 3A came originally with the L134 witch was a lower flat-head motor.

the cross bar on the front of the frame has been removed. we put some thought into it and were gonna keep the hood fenders and grill but were gonna tube her out.
