4 cyl motor

Generally speaking is a Jeep 4 cyl motor ok to pull a medium size aluminum boat? Probably a stupid question but when I was considering a Wrangler, a mechanic friend of mine tried to talk me out of it due to the fact that the engines weren't very strong on pulling even medium loads. His thoughts were that it put too m uch strain on the engine.
I had a very, very bad experience with a CJ7 transmission once and have been very leery of Jeeps since. Mostly because of the price of parts. That CJ7 broke the bank back in the day.

I personally think that they are weak engines to pull the load of the Jeep itself, much more to tow with it. that's contingent of what gear ratio and size tires you would have on the jeep too as well. if its geared properly, that will alleviate some of the lack of power issue, but the fact that it's a 4 Cyl. still stands as an anemic engine. another weak point on this matter would be the trans., the almighty AX15 that seems to get pulled out even before reaching their life expectancy from use and abuse. I have an 81 CJ7, i don't think it's expensive on the price of parts, just expensive when i break a lot of stuff all at the same time. If you want a reliable Jeep, Find one that has a 4.0 and whatever preference you have on the drivetrain be it Manual or automatic transmission.
