4.2 litre hard to start when cool

Help me, please! I've got an '89 YJ. It was drinking gas, so I replaced the carb with a 2bbl Carter with NO stepper motor. I had already done the Nutter bypass. Immediately after the carb replacement it would start perfectly when hot or cold, but when it cools down for about 15 minutes, it cranks for a long time before it will start. It always DID start perfectly BEFORE that freakin' Bubba changed the carb. The ONLY thing that changed up to this point was the carb. Since then I've changed the coil, wires, plugs (to a later Ford high-energy), this made it run so much smoother! I also had an intermittent cutting-out problem, so I replaced the distributor and electronic ignition module. It runs extremely smooth and pulls like a train. BUT, after all this, I've still got that hard starting problem when it cools down. I'm at my wit's end. I've thrown away almost every piece of vacuum hose, all I've got left is the one going to the distributor advance (it's connected to the right port according to the paper that came with my carb. The carb was a rebuilt Autoline. Can anybody help me? Please and thank you!

For anybody who reads this... it's still hard to start BUT I get over 19 mpg highway (Imperial gallons)!!! So, really, who cares if it's hard to start sometimes? I've thrown away almost every vacuum-associated thing on that engine, it looks like a motor from the sixites. It runs so, so smooth, not a hiccup or belch! I'm driving my friends nuts by asking them to "listen to the Symphony of the Six Clyinders"! Smmmooooothhhhhh.

I'd still like to have the damn thing start right away, but if that's a trade-off I've got to make, then fine![addsig]

Check the choke, It´s often a fine line between enough and to much. Have somebody hold it open an eighth of an inch and try a start with no gas pedal and see what happens.[addsig]
