4.0 oil filter adapter leaking....

My XJ sprung a oil leak the other day.:(

I ran it through the car wash and cleaned it off, suspecting the oil pressure sending unit was leaking.
What I found out was the aluminum filter adapter that mounts to the block is leaking. I went to Advance and bought the new O-ring.
To me it looks like you just spin off the filter, and loosen the 15mm bolt and it should wiggle down past the lower control arm.
Any tips?

I think it takes a torx bit or allen bit to remove the adapter, but it's a pretty straightforward fix.

Some people at these parts store are ignorant!
I stopped by Advance on the way home to get the O-Ring(s) for the adapter.
They looked it up and brought back a package with 1 o-ring in it, .79 cents.
I told them it looked like there would be 2 needed.

"No, thats all it shows..."

I got under there this morning and took the thing off and there was another O-ring on the bolt cap and one more on the bolt shaft itself. Big shocker there.

I went back, this time with the piece and showed them. They didn't have one, couldn't look it up if there life depended on it. I went to 3 other stores, nothing.

I drove by the stealership and they had both of them... $6.00!!!

At least I got it back together and she don't leak now.

And to think, I don't miss the 10 years I spent running a repair shop and working on cars for a living....;)

The last parts counter guy that waited on me was literally drooling on the counter. I figured he must have fallen asleep on his feet. Nice, huh? I guess it truly is hard to get good help these days.

I just know it's nice not having that thing pumping out oil when it's idleing.;)
