283 sb in 77cj 5

Anyone with an opinion about a 283 in a cj 5,, stock 3spd, and 34 in swampers

will this be a decent set up? most of the driving will be just beeting around, some pavement but not much, I'm trying to keep this as fun as I can for under a grand ,,,,,,,, so far I'm doing pretty good. :twisted:

well if ur going to put in a 283 why not a 350? 350's are easier in the long run to repair.

I will build a 350 when the time comes, but to answer,,, I have a 283 running right now, and I didn't want to get into to much without going through the whole drive train. I thought I would just get it running for now, and do some playing while I get everything that I wan't. after all,, everything will bolt right up in the long run.

i think when you go to mate that 3spd to a sbc you are going to quickly surpass that 1k mark....

yup mating that sbc to that 3spd will bring u over 1k
