231 Tcase 727 Transmission

90 YJ, with AMC 360, Had 999 in it, Torque converter left us, Waggy 727 ready to go in, Am trying to install 231 Tcase. Everything measures the same. but 231 goes on to about 1/2 inch from mating. Don't want to force it. Can anyone tell me what is holding it back?

The trans output shaft was made shorter on the newer 999s so they could use the same tcase as AW4. Partsmike.com sells the spacer.

Thank You, That is what I was afraid of. OK, I guess I will use my 229 for now.
