2002 liberty knocking noise

Trying to save some money I had a certified mechanic listen to it he said the knocking was in timing chain area and probably the plastic guides.So took his word for it and bought timing chain kit and had a friend put timing chain kit in.Guides were wore some not broke he said chains were streched a little bit.Got it back together and it didn't fix knocking.When its cold its not that noisy but as it warms up its pretty loud.Any ideas what it could be? Or is it costly and maybe time to get rid of it?It has a 105,000 miles on it.

Yes I put a timing chain kit in thats what I thought it was or the guides.Unfortunately I found the problem my mechanic said its a rod.He said it was cheaper to put a used motor in then to fix it.So i guess im looking for a used 3.7l engine.
