2" vs 3" on my zj

well thanks to everyone for their input and help. so far here's what i've decided on...
image-missing.png

(here's the link if anyone wants to look at specifics) its a 2" lift, and with shipping i can get it for just under $200
http://www.mesa4x4.com/parts/rubicon_express/re-re8030.html

and if that happens, then i will get these tires....
image-missing.png

they are the kumho venture mt's. only $84 on tire rack right now. cheaper than any local dealers i've found, even with shipping. 31x10.5 r15.

for now i'll squeeze those tires on my stock 15x7 rims, i know it will bulge, but the guy at NTB said i shouldnt lose any life or have any problems with the tires, just that they'll bulge. but....if anyone has any or know someone that has the 15x8 rims that were on the Sahara TJ's i believe? let me know, i'd be interested in getting rid of the bulge and gaining a bit of back spacing. or any other 15x8 rims with the same bolt pattern for that matter, otherwise eventually i'll break down and get some black american racing wheels, but thats not essential right now.

so give me your input on my final decision please or forever hold your peace!

Don't put the wrong tire size on your rim, the tires will wear unevenly. This is worse on large tread lugs like a mud tire.

15x7's are the proper rim for most all other tires in that size. I don't know why the Kuhmo is different - maybe because they're imported, maybe because it's size is not actual. Hard to tell because the tread width is left out of the specs on that website.

Maybe consider the Dunlop Mud Rover - it is a very good, domestic tire. About the same price and will fit your stock wheels properly.

Correct me if I'm wrong but should the kit for your zj have 4 spacers? In the market a 2" lift for your truck would be 4 spacers, 4 shocks and front bump stop extensions. make sure you are getting what you need. You can also think about the additional 3/4" spacer for the front to add a little extra lift to the front, with 31's you are going to need it in my experience. At the time of purchasing the lift the extra spacer would only cost an extra $30 and would bring everything to the max without making other changes to the driveline and steering.
just my .02

Yes, if you read their online instructions, it mentions installing rear spacers and front spacers ( i just checked the rubicon express web site).

http://www.rubiconexpress.com/instructions/rubiconexpress/RE8030A.pdf

contents:
2 DT03268 Rear shocks
2 DT03286 Front shocks
2 RE1334 Ft & rr coil spring spacer pair
1 RE1390 Rear bump stop extension pair

I'm planning on the same kit on my ZJ

yeah, i talked to the guy that sells these kits, he said not everything is pictured, but everything is there. so the picture is deceiving.

The Kuhmo is a domestic tire, It is the second line production of goodyear. I had the same exact tire as he is looking at, and I got 40K miles out of a set. They have a 60K mile warranty, I simple went to a bigger tire so mine were not needed. They are great tires, my only gripe about them is there traction on wet concreate is something not to be desired, but take it easy and get use to their handling charaistics and you'll be fine. Snow, mud, dirt, rocks, they are great performers

still planning on the kumho mt's. i just checked them, they went up $2 a piece! oh well i guess i can shell out the extra $8. and i'm thinking wheels now too, as my stock wheels are 15x7's. i found some nice cragars on quadratec, 15x8's so that they'll fit the 31x10.5 r15 kumho's nicely. the wheels are only $28 each, i can get 5 (spare) shipped to my door for just under $200, good deal. and i know you're wondering why i'm ordering 4 tires and 5 wheels, well i have an old 31" tire lying around that i'll use as the spare for now, cause i'm hoping that i'll never have to actually use it, and even if i do, it'll just be to get me home and at least it will be the same size as the rest of the tires. so without further ado, here is a pic of the cragars (without center caps)

Air pressure on new tires

Thats a nice looking wheel, I like!

It has that, I am a bad a$$ and have black wheels, but I am refined enough to have round hole instead of triangle ones commonly found on this type of wheel look!! hehe
Good find! Should look awesome on that ZJ of yours!

haha, yeah that round hole look was exactly what i was going for!

WHens the install, or are ya gonna wait like 8 months like Dave is? Sucka!!

JK Dave!

well....i'm waiting on jeepdude to see if he can get me the wheels cheaper, then i'm waiting for a paycheck to get the tires....then i'm waiting for the lift to actually arrive....so its a waiting game right now. but once i actually get everything in my possession.....NO, i wont wait 8 months like dave!! i'll put it all on asap.

though...in dave's defense, its been colder than a witch's tit this winter here, so i give him some slack.

Good deal! I'm in the same boat :D with my XJ.

hehe, its kinda exciting isnt it TC? i'm getting impatient, but the good thing is (depending on how you look at it) that i dont have my tires in yet, so its not like i could get the wheels on even if i wanted too, and the lift might look foolish without those, but once the tires are ordered, and more importantly arrive, i'm going to be one annoying person to be around until i get it all installed ::):
