Hi

I just got my first jeep and i am totally head over heals

It drives a dream but i have black smoke when stationary and a coolant leak. My temp gauge goes up and then straight back down.

Any ideas???????????????

black smoke is a running-rich condition... and a coolant leak simply needs to be fixed - where is it leaking? if its internal you probably have head gasket issues or worse.

white smoke means you're burning oil - valve seals, head gasket, or piston rings...

with it running, pull the oil filler cap off and put your hand over the hole. my jeep, with 220k miles, has no blow-by at all... so you shouldn't feel much air coming out at all....
