1997 Cherokee Sport Intermittent stalling and backfiring
My 1997 Cherokee Sport 4.0L I6 has developed an intermittent stalling (1-2 seconds) accompanied by a backfire in the last 3 weeks. The problem seems to occur at random, sometimes when cold, other times when hot at freeway speeds and sometimes when running in traffic.
I think the problem may be as simple as a clogged fuel filter but I would assume that the problem would be more frequent or more prevalent at higher revs.
Could this be a leak between the mass airflow sensor and the plenum?
The common cure for this is simply gunning the accelerator, which switches to a lower gear and higher revs then the problem subsides.
Any ideas are appreciated :-? :-?
