1996 Jeep Cherokee Alternator Problems

I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. Drove through some water and the Generator light came on. Has happened before but always went off. Alternator will not charge. Took it to mechanic and he put on new alternator but still will not charge.Seems to be stumped. Any suggestions

You may have fried the driver's in the computer (it controls the alt output) or blown a fusible link.

Check all the related electrical connectors for water intrusions. A short in the charging system will prevent the PCM from charging the battery and in the worst case scanario, it may all in all cause an internal failure in the PCM like carnuck mentioned. Make sure the grounds are all in good working order as well and the fuses checked.
