06 TJ clutch whine

I've got a whining sound coming from the trans or clutch. When I put just a little pressure on the clutch pedal the noise goes away. Doesn't matter if I'm in gear or not, moving or not. Foot on clutch pedal - no noise, foot off pedal - squeeeeeel. It almost, but not quite, sounds like a belt sqeeling, although, I realize, there are no belts in the system that it could be.

Is this a common problem easily dealt with, or do I have a major rebuild in my future?

More than likely it's the throwout bearing thats making the noise. In rare occasions, the input shaft bearing on the transmission would also create this noise but it will also make a grinding noise under load. The throwout bearing replacement is not a major task IMO. My advise, if you are going to replace the throwout bearing, might as well replace the clutch and the pressure plate along with it.

Over the years I've had this same issue and SteelHeadz is right on. While you're at it you may condiser a high end clutch from Centerforce, and don't forget to check your main seal and make sure it's oil tight, since the transmission is removed it's easiest to address any other issues.

Oh. Wonderful. About how much is this going to cost me?

Thanks for the replies guys. Please don't take my sarcastic enthusiasm as lack of appreciation for your responses. :)
